Lisa "Hollywood" Rozier

In high school, I served as a student teacher for show choir and musical theatre classes. I choreographed shows and ran rehearsals. I attended conferences like the ThesCon Conference and was part of arts organizations such as Usher’s New Look Foundation. These experiences exposed me to various dance styles and the business side of the arts.

College was my next step to further my education in Theatre Arts, where I gained theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Art has always been my form of release, and I believe I’ve provided the same for many children. My approach combines dance, acting, and spoken word to help them discover their freedom of expression.

I’ve worked with both aspiring artists and children who didn’t know their artistic potential. My goal is to break down barriers of fear and encourage artistic freedom. Whether it’s dance, writing, spoken word, or acting, self-expression is key to self-discovery.

I adapt my teaching to each child’s unique needs, recognizing that there are different routes to the same goal. Patience is crucial as I never know what challenges they’ve faced. My aim is to create a safe space where they can explore, learn, and develop a lifelong love for the arts.

My Connection to Trauma:
Embracing life’s journey through triumphs and tribulations, I have found solace and purpose in the transformative power of the Arts. Having navigated the depths of physical and emotional trauma, I discovered the profound impact of combining passion with pain, sparking a paradigm shift that propelled them towards a new path of self-discovery. In the face of a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, I exemplify resilience, refusing to surrender to adversity. With 17 years of teaching experience, I have not only persevered but also harnessed my understanding of pain and trauma to cultivate purpose. Today, I am dedicated to creating a nurturing space that invites emotional exploration and enjoyment, demonstrating the remarkable journey of turning pain into purpose and fostering resilience with every step.

Additionally, I’ve contributed as a choreographer and assistant director for numerous school productions.

My teaching philosophy revolves around tailoring my approach to suit the maturity and understanding of each age group. Regardless of age, I firmly believe in the power of self-expression. Whether I’m assisting with a show or conducting a workshop, the ultimate goal remains consistent: I want every child to have a great time and leave with enhanced self-belief.

My journey started with experiences in high school, which laid the foundation for the classes I’d later instruct. College provided me with valuable insights into what and how to teach effectively. My travels throughout Georgia to teach classes exposed me to a diverse range of children, enriching my experience further.

Program Experience:
I have had the privilege of leading dynamic movement workshops for a diverse range of participants, including youth summits, schools, after-school programs, and community-based organizations. My expertise lies in conducting vibrant Hip-Hop classes that resonate with students. Whether it’s through classic or trending Hip-Hop songs, the music serves as a bridge to introduce students to the core elements of street dance.

In my classes, the emphasis extends beyond mere dance steps. I foster an environment where students not only have a blast but also grasp the significance of focus, information retention, leadership, and collaboration. These vital life skills are seamlessly integrated into the art of dance, making the learning experience both enjoyable and enriching.

Furthermore, my role as a choreographer for various productions is grounded in a deep understanding of the director’s vision. This understanding is the compass that guides me as I work with students to capture the precise mood and essence required for their characters. In essence, my approach to teaching is not only about dance but also about nurturing holistic development in students, ensuring they gain both the skills and mindset needed for success. This commitment to the art of dance and personal growth is what drives me to make a positive impact, one step at a time.
