Purchase the book

Inspired Georgia is a co-publication with Georgia Council for the Arts, GA Poet Laureate Judson Mitcham, University of Georgia Press, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Georgia Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts and was fueled by a shared desire by the partners to honor Georgia as a nexus of creativity.

The collection takes the artist’s identity as a Georgian as its launching point, without asking the artist to use that identity to document the state. The volume is presented as parallel anthologies that overlap and intertwine the visions and voices of eighty-five exceptional Georgia artists. The objective of the format is that the poetry and photography do not seek to explain one another but rather begin a conversation with one another and invite the reader to seek a deeper understanding of the imagery provided by each and their connection to one another. A landscape portfolio by photographer Diane Kirkland is placed at the center of the book to root readers in Georgia as a sense of place.

Inspired Georgia Traveling Photo Exhibit

In the summer of 2017 a photo exhibit of images from Inspired Georgia toured the state.  Each host venue exhibited the work and hosted literary events that celebrated local poets in each region of the state.

Georgia Masterpieces

This limited-edition publication takes a retrospective look at works of some of the state’s renowned visual artists.  Georgia Council for the Arts published the hardcover, richly detailed book to celebrate Georgia’s culturally significant and renowned visual artists, past and present. It is the first of its kind for the state and  provides a means of recognizing those visual artists from Colonial times through the 21st Century.  The publication, which is the result of a special grant from the National Endowment for the Arts through its American Masterpieces national initiative, is a culmination of a multi-year project between Georgia Council for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and many of the state’s well-known museums.
