The Essential Theatre

Dramatic Writing course for Middle and High School Theater and Language Arts programs offering maximum flexibility to meet the needs of every classroom. Course typically runs 2-6 weeks depending on teacher's preference. GSE-aligned lesson plans and accompanying videos, handouts, instructions for teacher-led in-class activities, and time with a teaching artist or artists are provided as part of the course.

A six week introduction to the art and form of playwriting. Each class in the course focuses on a different aspect of playwriting and includes instruction, writing exercises, in‐class sharing and feedback, and Georgia playwrights as special guests. This course is great for community centers, libraries and other community-focused groups.

A four week playwriting intensive led by Essential Theatre Education Associates who are also professional playwrights! Great for the classroom or community groups. Course participants will each create a 10 minute play. Introduction to Playwriting or Playwriting in the Classroom is a recommended prerequisite but is not required. The course culminates with a showcase of students' work.
