Folk/Traditional Arts

Georgia’s Traditional Arts Research Collection comprises documentation in the form of field notes and reports, photographs, and audio and video recordings that were created by the Georgia Folklife Program in an effort to connect traditional artists with grant and program opportunities. The collection is not encyclopedic; various traditional art forms, ethnic communities, and regions of the state are absent. The collection does, however, represent a discrete time period, 1987 to 2007, and contains over 21,000 now digitized images, documents, and audio files documenting traditional arts in Georgia during this period.

With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, and in partnership with the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Georgia Humanities, GCA has worked to create online exhibits that introduce the Traditional Arts Research Collection to the public.
