James Barket

James Barket has been a teacher and performer in Georgia and the Southeast since 1994. He has a Doctor of Music Arts (DMA) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He had the opportunity to serve as a Fulbright Scholar in Austria from 1992-94. He has performed solo recitals in Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. He has also conducted the Alabama All-State Orchestra. He is currently on the faculty at Webb Bridge Middle School in Fulton County and at Kennesaw State University in Cobb County. He is also a freelance bass player in the Atlanta/North Georgia area. He formerly served as a faculty member at Valdosta State University and as principal bassist with Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and Albany Symphony Orchestra.

  • Performance fees – $200.00 per performance plus travel expenses

Teaching Experience:

James Barket has taught full-time since 1994. His current position is the orchestra teacher at Webb Bridge Middle School. He also teaches privately. He has had at least one All-State student from his private studio each year since 2001. He has experience teaching every grade level from 4th though college undergraduate. Many of his former students are now professional musicians or full-time music teachers.

Sample Programs:

  • This is the String Bass!: This program will introduce students to string instruments and specifically the string bass. It will feature a short history of the string instruments, various playing techniques for the instrument including arco and pizzicato, and demonstrate the large range of string instruments. It will also allow students to participate in various aspects of music performance including rhythmic clapping and singing.
  • Folk, Traditional, and Spiritual Music on the String Bass: This Program is designed to highlight the performance of Folk, Traditional, and Spiritual Music performed on the string bass. The program will demonstrate the use of music to communicate and entertain.
  • A Musical Program to Promote Respect and Address Bullying: This Program is designed to use music and photos (using a power point presentation) to speak about the dignity of all people and address the dangers of bullying.
