Presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country.

The program:
- Introduces students to classic and contemporary poetry
- Encourages students to learn about literary history and contemporary life
- Helps students master public speaking skills and build self-confidence

GCA is thrilled to partner with the Alliance Theatre to administer Poetry Out Loud for the state of Georgia.

School registration for POL is currently underway and the deadline to register is Tuesday, January 2, 2024 (11:59 PM EST). Participating schools and organizations must hold a local contest and report a champion by Saturday, January 20, 2024 (11:59 PM EST). Four regional POL competitions will be held throughout February 2024. The state final will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, (4:00 PM), at the Woodruff Arts Center (Atlanta, GA). POL National Finals will be held in Washington, DC, April 30 - May 2, 2024.Georgia POL state champs have finished in the top three nationally for four of the last eleven years, with one national champ, two national runners-up, and one third-place finisher.Click the first link below to be directed to the Alliance Theatre's Poetry Out Loud information page with details about school registration and the timeline for POL program dates.
