The plan is a reflection of the priorities of the state and its arts industry. Seven regional meetings in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Gainesville, Macon, Savannah and Tifton were held over the course of the last year to gather perspectives from local officials, the arts community, and interested stakeholders. The collective feedback and input garnered from those sessions were used to identify statewide and local needs and to develop strategies that will guide the Council's activities in four primary areas: economic development, community impact, advocacy, and capacity building.
As presented in the strategic plan, the mission of Georgia Council for the Arts is direct and succinct: "To cultivate the growth of vibrant, thriving Georgia Communities through the arts." In addition to the mission statement, the plan includes guiding principles as well as clearly defined values and goals that will assist in strengthening and sustaining the arts industry in Georgia.
Georgia Council for the Arts sincerely thanks everyone who participated in the community forums and offered ideas and suggestions (you can read a summary of what we learned here). Your support was, and continues to be, invaluable as vital contributions to the successful achievement of our shared goals.
