GCA's Strategic Plan

In the Spring of 2017 GCA began work on our new strategic plan, a document that will serve as a relevant and inspirational guidepost to carry our work in support of the arts forward.  A series of regional conversations were held throughout the summer to engage the general public in the planning process and capture Georgian's visions for how we best harness the power and potential of the arts in Georgia to build strong, vibrant communities.   We are grateful to all who participated, from a wide and diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, expertise and participation levels.  We are also grateful to the Georgia Municipal Association for partnering with us on these events and helping us to engage so many individuals from local governments in the conversations.   Locations, dates and times of the Create Georgia events are listed below.

The first draft of GCA's new strategic goals are now available for your thoughtful review and feedback.  The plan is in many ways a continuation of the work that began with the 2013-2018 plan, the first written as a division of the Department of Economic Development, which set the foundation for GCA's current portfolio.  With this set of goals GCA hopes to advance the work the agency believes it is most equipt to do in order to grow recognition and support for the vital work that artists and arts organizations are doing throughout our state.   Let us know your thoughts.  Survey closes on March 7th.

GOALS: First Draft Survey Results

In the Summer of 2017 GCA initiated a statewide survey of arts perception, participation and general feedback to inform GCA's next plan.   The survey closed in June of 2017.  An overview of responses can be found by clicking on the link below.

Current Plan

The current plan, 2013 -2018,  is a reflection of the priorities of the state and its arts industry. Seven regional meetings in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Gainesville, Macon, Savannah and Tifton were held over the course of 2012 to gather perspectives from local officials, the arts community, and interested stakeholders. The collective feedback and input garnered from those sessions were used to identify statewide and local needs and to develop strategies that have guided the Council's activities in four primary areas: economic development, community impact, advocacy, and capacity building.

As presented in the strategic plan, the mission of Georgia Council for the Arts is direct and succinct: "To cultivate the growth of vibrant, thriving Georgia Communities through the arts." In addition to the mission statement, the plan includes guiding principles as well as clearly defined values and goals that will assist in strengthening and sustaining the arts industry in Georgia.

Georgia Council for the Arts sincerely thanks everyone who participated in the community forums and offered ideas and suggestions (you can read a summary of what we learned here). Your support was, and continues to be, invaluable as vital contributions to the successful achievement of our shared goals.
